WELLSTON, Ohio — According to the Wellston Police Department, officers initiated a traffic stop along North Pennsylvania Avenue and Lake Alma Road on Saturday.
Reports say officers were questioning the driver when suddenly he exited the car and fled on foot into a nearby wooded area. The driver was identified as 33-year-old Joshua Coleman of Hamden.
Officials said two Wellston officers gave chase.
After a short foot pursuit, officers placed Coleman into custody. According to the police department, drug paraphernalia and a bag of fentanyl were on his person.
Coleman was taken into custody and charged with two counts of obstructing official business, felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug abuse instruments, OVI, and driving under suspension.
Records show that Coleman had several warrants for his arrest at the time. He was transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility.
Authorities say members of the Wellston Fire Department and Jackson County EMS were also requested to the scene to treat law enforcement for possible Fentanyl exposure.
