ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — The decisions of a political body are starting to show, but thankfully, the situation was not deadly… not this time, anyway.

A two-vehicle crash came in at route 772 and Blain Highway in Huntington Township; less than a half-mile from the fire department on Saturday. A volunteer firefighter was able to get on-scene and start helping those who were hurt, including a person trapped inside their car.

No EMS members were on-staff at Huntington because the trustees have gutted the budget in recent weeks, which has forced members to resign or leave their posts.

Ambulances were called from all over the county to assist in the Saturday evening crash, but few could make it quickly.

Scioto Township responded, but due to their proximity to the location it took them 15 minutes to arrive with a crew. Green Township from Kingston also responded and arrived on scene; a trek that is more than 18 miles one-way. Also assisting was the local Veteran Affairs ambulance.

No serious injuries were in the crash, but it brings to light the serious consequences of the local EMS not having the resources they need to help in potentially deadly situations.

Several people in the crash received scrapes and bruises, and were transported to the hospital.
