Portsmouth man accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old child

SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio — A Portsmouth man is facing rape charges following an investigation by the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sheriff David Thoroughman, 18-year-old, Cody Lee Taylor, was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a 5-year-old child. 

The sheriff said that his office was contacted on Monday regarding the alleged rape. The child, officials say, was taken at the time to Southern Ohio Medical Center for treatment but was later transferred to Adena Regional Medical Center in Waverly for a forensic examination. 

A detective with the Sheriff’s Office worked with the Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit to investigate the assault. During the course of the investigation, Thoroughman said, a video from the incident location was obtained.

Taylor was arrested at his residence and charged with one count of rape. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
