WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Thursday morning, the White House announced that President Joe Biden had tested positive for COVID-19.
In a statement released by Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, the “fully vaccinated” 79-year-old President was experiencing mild symptoms and had begun taking Paxlovid. Paxlovid is a recent Pfizer medication used to treat mild-to-moderate COVID-19 patients at high risk of hospitalization.
According to Jean-Pierre, the president will isolate in the White House but will continue to carry out his presidential duties.
The White House says their medical unit will begin contact tracing as part of their COVID-19 protocol.
Reports say Biden’s last COVID-19 test was Tuesday, and was negative at the time.
