CHILLICOTHE, Ohio— According to reports, officers with the police department were dispatched to the 500 block of East Main Street after a caller stated that they had found three small children walking down the sidewalk alone.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the individual, who said she found the young kids (ages 6, 4, and 3) walking down the sidewalk. The woman told officers she gave them some milk and then called the police.
Reports say the oldest child was able to give their mother’s name to the officers. The mother told officers that she was at work and the children were being watched by their grandfather.
The responding officers went to the residence in the 500 block of East Second Street, but there was no answer. “I knocked loudly with my baton on both of the front doors with no response. I noted the rear upstairs door to the residence was open, so I entered and announced police several times with no response”, said Officer Wright.
The children were taken to the Ross County Law Complex, where Child Protective Services were called to launch an investigation.
The mother, according to the report, arrived at the law complex and told officers that the grandfather was asleep in a downstairs room.
