ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A Ross County man was charged with assault after authorities say he attacked a corrections officer inside the Ross County Jail.
The Ross County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence on Pleasant Valley Road on August 12.
Reports say 22-year-old Caleb Simmons had gotten into an argument with his grandmother after she found him inside her home without permission. The grandmother told deputies that when she asked Simmons to leave, he threatened to kill her.
Deputies arrested Caleb Simmons on menacing charges and transported him to the Ross County Jail. That is where he allegedly pushed a corrections officer and then spit in his eyes and mouth. Deputies said Simmons had to be placed in the jail’s restraint chair.
He remains in custody on a $5,000 bond.
