LUCASVILLE, Ohio — A hunter in Scioto County made a grisly discovery on Monday morning.
According to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a call shortly after 10:30 a.m. regarding possible human remains being found.
Sheriff David Thoroughman said deputies, detectives, and the county coroner’s office was requested to the location. The exact whereabouts of the remains were not released to the media.
The sheriff went on to say that the Mercyhurst Department of Applied Forensic Sciences, out of Erie, Pennsylvania, was contacted to assist in determining the identity of the remains. Two teams, including an anthropologist and a crime scene reconstructionist from Precision Laser and Instrument Inc., also assisted in the recovery.
The remains were transported to Erie for further investigation, including dental and DNA testing.
Officials did confirm the remains were of a female. Three rings and a watch were recovered from the scene.
