Charles R. “Tate” Newman, 82, of Londonderry, passed away on January 9, 2023 at his residence.
He was born on January 30, 1940, in McArthur, the son of the late Roy C. and Ocie (Clary) Newman. On May 24, 1958, he united in marriage with his loving wife, Lena “Peggy” (Elkins) Newman, who preceded him in death on April 1, 2009.
Charles is survived by his beloved sons, Charles E. Newman, Michael Newman, and Daniel (Lanissa) Newman; grandchildren, Jason (Heather) Newman, Shannon (John) Aubrey, Elizabeth Ann Newman, Rachael (Jerry) McCumber, and Ashleigh Wilbur; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jesse (Joyce) Newman, Dale Newman, and Marlene Mathes; and numerous other special family members and friends whom he cherished.
In addition to his parents and wife, Charles was preceded in death by his infant sons, Gary and Stevie Newman; siblings, Roland, Leonard, Ralph, Artie and John Newman, Cloyd Morrison, Juanita Dobbins, Frances Carroll, Thelma Johnson, and Vada Miller; and daughter-in-law, Carol Newman.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 16 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Hill Community Church (15290 OH-327, Laurelville, OH 43135) with Pastor James Vandagriff officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Laurelville. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5 – 7 p.m. at the HILL FUNERAL HOME, Kingston.
