William Louis “Bill” Mayer, age 88, of Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday January 11, 2023, at the Dayton VA Medical Center.
He was born on October 10, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Joseph Clarence Mayer and Edna Ruth (Moore) Mayer.
Bill was a 1952 graduate of Hillsboro High School, and after high school, Bill proudly served his country in the United Staes Navy. Upon returning from the Navy, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University in 1958.
He loved going to the OSU Buckeyes Football games and he was a season ticket holder from 1958 until 2020. Bill was a member of the First Community Church in Columbus, Ohio. He will be greatly missed.
Bill is survived by his five children, Billiejo (Jay) Mayer McKirahan, Barbara “Bobbie” (Scott) Cole, Bryan (Cindy) Mayer, Beth Mayer Bray, and Amanda Penix; 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; a brother, Robert J. Mayer, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Morgan Marie Mayer; two great grandchildren, Sarah Steyaert and Shaun Steyaert; two brothers, Thomas P. Mayer, John D. Mayer, and his former wife, Jessie Mayer Wilkins.
Burial will take place in the Prospect Cemetery. The Turner & Son Funeral Home is serving the family.
