James Loyd Griffin, Jr., 31, of Chillicothe passed 4:20 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2023 in the Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center unexpectedly.
He was born March 28, 1991, in Lancaster, Ohio, to James L. Sr. “Pops” and Cheryl Ann Holbrook Griffin.
Surviving is his mother, Cheryl Ann Griffin, of Chillicothe. Whistle was his mamma’s baby. He was an amazing dad to 3 blessings, his kids, Jeremiah “Bear” Griffin, Jalynn Jewel Ann Griffin, Juliana Norma Jean Griffin. He was also survived by a brother, Frankie (Samantha) Schwalbach; uncles, Kenny L. Holbrook and Jeff A. Holbrook; aunt, Pixie (Robbie) Tigner; and nephews, Steven, Brian, Brandon and Eshmil Schwalbach. In addition, numerous cousins, with whom he had so many great memories, Crissy (Tony) Davis, Sharri (Nicole) Holbrook, JD Holbrook, Joshua, Jordan, Matthew and Dustin Holbrook. Whistle had a special Nan-Nan, Uncle Roy and Jimbo, whom he loved so much.
He was predeceased by his dad, James L. “POPS” Griffin Sr; grandpa, Eshmil E. Holbrook, Sr.; grandmother, Judy Ann Holbrook; and an uncle, Eshmil E. “Moe” Holbrook Jr.
Whistle attended Zane Trace High School and was a member of Yellowbud Church of Jesus Christ. From a young age, he was taught about the Lord. He played the drums for different churches. Whistle was an avid outdoorsman and especially loved hunting, fishing and finding mushrooms.
Whistle, in his last days, got to do what he loved most and that was helping others. The day of his last breath, he saved 8 lives by being an organ donor.
The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to family friend, Dionne “Skaggs” Buskirk.
A celebration of his life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2023 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Bud Faulkner officiating. There will be no public calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ware Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
