MONTEREY PARK, California — A shooter opened fire over the weekend, killing 10 people at a California dance club.
According to reports, the 72-year-old shooter, Huu Can Tran, was also found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officials say Tran was found inside a van he used during the massacre.
It happened while a group of Asian Americans was celebrating the Lunar New Year.
During a press conference, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said the shooter’s motives remain unknown. Tran, authorities say, lived in New York. It is unclear what his association, if any, with the location is.
Authorities with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office stated that further tragedy was averted as the shooter then attempted to attack another gathering. Those plans were thwarted after bystanders wrestled the gun away from Tran.
The investigation into the mass killing continues.
