Helen Jean Barlow, 87, of Piketon, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at her residence. 

She was born on May 29, 1935 in Elm Grove to the late Charles Emmitt Smith and Goldie Viola Grooms Smith.  On April 6, 1953, she was united in marriage to Gilbert B Barlow, Jr. who preceded her in death on April 23, 2007. 

Surviving are her children; George and wife Margie Barlow of Piketon and Jeanie and husband Larry Williams of Piketon; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; brother, Mike and wife Rita Smith of Waverly; sisters, Suzanne Smith of Waverly and Barbara and husband Jon Williams of Piketon and a host of nieces and nephews.  

In addition to her husband and parents, Jean was preceded in death by one son; John Barlow; sister, Betty and husband Kenneth Wilkerson and brother, Jake and wife Shelby Smith.

Jean was baptized by Larry Williams on April 29, 1994 and attended Hammon Church.  She enjoyed baking for family and friends and was a cake decorator by trade.  Jean and her husband, Gilbert were the owners and operators of Zahn’s Corner Grocery from 1975-1980.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 20, 2023 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly with Larry Williams, Minister officiating.  Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service on Monday. 

The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff and caregivers of Promedica Hospice and friends who helped to care for Jean and her family.  Jean will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
