Jacquelyn D. Shepherd, 95, of Waverly, Ohio passed away Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton surrounded by loved ones.
She was born July 1, 1927 in Cowards, South Carolina to the late Thaddus L. Smith and Wilma B. Lewis. On December 7, 1946 she was united in marriage to Robert E. Shepherd who preceded her in death on July 23, 1991.
Jackie is survived by a daughter, Terri Lee (Johnny) Trent of Miamisburg, Ohio; a son, Gary J. Shepherd of Waverly; six grandchildren, Isaiah J. Bennett and great grandchildren, Evan, Matt and Caleb Bennett; Joel A. (Jennifer) Bennett and great granddaughter, Amanda Bennett; Megan L. (Rafeal) Jimenez and great grandson, Daniel Jimenez; Nicole B. (Jason) Clark and great grandchildren, Ella and Hudson Clark; Morgan J. Shepherd and Rachael M. Shepherd and great grandchildren, Lucas, Noah and Tristian Shepherd.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Quince Lewis.
Jackie graduated from Dobbins Bennett high school in Kingsport, Tennessee in 1944 at the age of 16 years old. She then graduated from Croft Secretary & Accounting School in Durham, North Carolina in 1946. The Shepherd family settled in Waverly, Ohio in November of 1954. Before taking a job at Goodyear Atomic, she worked for a local lawyer, an OBGYN in Chillicothe and the late Dr. William W. Wiltberger. Jackie retired for the third time at the age of 88 from Goodyear Atomic (and all its other names). She was a lifelong bridge player and a member of several clubs in Waverly.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home with Val Francis officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Union Cemetery on Bridge Street. Family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
