COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose announced a historic high of 17,006 new business filings in Ohio for January 2023, marking a strong start for new business growth in the state.
This new record surpassed the previous high of 16,518 filings in January 2020.
Secretary LaRose attributed the success to the resilience of Ohio’s job creators and the state’s efforts to support new business growth.
“This new state record is a testament to the resilience of Ohio’s job creators and the work we’ve done to support new business growth,” said Secretary LaRose. “We will keep innovating, breaking down barriers, and cultivating our state as a destination for entrepreneurship to thrive.”

LaRose says that simplifying the process for starting a new business in Ohio has helped with the state’s expanded growth.
Ohio has also kept the filing fees low, as a new business can be filed in Ohio for $99, less than neighboring states, and the application can typically be processed in 24 hours, said the LaRose’s Office.
Ohio has seen record-setting years in new business creation in 2019, 2020, and 2021.
