ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio — A Nelsonville man is behind bars today on weapons and drug-related charges.
According to the Nelsonville Police Department officers performed a routine traffic stop on March 12. During their investigation, the officers discovered suspected narcotics and drug abuse instruments on a passenger. However, they did not stop there and continued to search the vehicle.
Their search led them to the discovery of suspected narcotics, a 12-gauge shotgun, and .22 caliber rifle on the vehicle driver, Devon Morrison, age 20 of Nelsonville. Morrison was immediately arrested for possessing weapons under disability, which is a felony of the 3rd degree. He was then transported to the Regional Jail for the offense.
Interestingly, Morrison had been previously arrested on March 7, 2023, by the same officers on outstanding warrants, and they had also found him in possession of suspected narcotics. All suspected narcotics found in the recent traffic stop will be sent to the Ohio Bureau of Investigations for testing, and the results will be forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for a review of potential charges.
