CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — On March 25th, 2023, a fight occurred at the Chillicothe and Ross County Library, located at 140 S Paint St.
According to eyewitnesses and involved parties, a male attempted to stab another male with a knife. The perpetrator, later identified as 61-year-old David Kinney, rode his bike past the library and began shouting at the victim, making aggressive statements, the police report said.
The victim reportedly was unsure of what Kinney wanted and crossed the street to the area of Davis Tire, where he began to swing a knife at the victim. The victim, police said, narrowly avoided being stabbed and Kinney fled the scene on his bike, heading northbound on Paint St. An employee and a library visitor witnessed the incident and corroborated the victim’s account.
Later that day, law enforcement located and arrested David Kinney on charges of felonious assault. During the arrest, officers found two pocket knives on his person. Kinney was then transported to the Ross County Jail and is set to appear in court today, March 27.
Officers in their report said Kinney told officers that he had an altercation with the victim at the library because the victim and another person were calling him a racial slur while on the bus the previous day. However, this information did not change the charges against him.
