WILMINGTON, Ohio — The National Weather Service in Wilmington is asking residents to prepare for what could be a widespread severe weather day.
Forecasters say that the area will see multiple rounds of storms. This morning will see some non-severe storms, especially west of I-71. However, the severe storm threat will begin to increase by early afternoon, initially near/west of I-71. Several clusters/rounds of storms are expected, with the severe threat gradually expanding eastward through early evening. Damaging winds are the primary threat, with a few tornadoes and large hail also possible.
Residents in northwest, west central, and north central Ohio should be particularly alert for a potential strong tornado or two, with large hail also expected to exceed 2 inches in northwest Ohio.
Even outside of storm activity, gusty winds between 35-45 MPH are expected which could lead to power outages.
The National Weather Service advises residents to keep an eye on the sky and have multiple means to receive weather information. The Guardian’s app is one such source, now available for Android and Apple users, allowing real-time weather alerts to be sent straight to their phones.
