CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A farmer who was working along Marietta Road caused a scare Thursday night.
It happened in the 3000 block near Metzger Village.
Firefighters responded to the area after a strong smell of anhydrous ammonia was coming from the area. When they arrived at the scene they found a farmer in the area who was treating his land.
Workers at nearby factories complained of a strong smell and evacuated their buildings, and turned on exhaust systems.
Officials said that once they made contact with the person who was spraying the ammonia they “shut down for the night.”
The Emergency Management Agency was dispatched to the scene and was working with nearby businesses and homes to air out their buildings and homes.
