CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Police in Chillicothe are investigating a shooting near the downtown area as violent crime cases continue to rise in Ohio’s First Capital.
On Wednesday afternoon, officers responded to the area of Caldwell and E 7th Street in reference to possible gunshots.
According to reports, officers made contact with a caller who reported hearing what he believed to be two gunshots near Caldwell and E 7th St. The caller reported observing a dark-colored Honda Accord speeding, with the tires squealing, and failing to stop at a stop sign.
Another witness stated that they saw a white male wearing a black shirt over his head and a white female wearing a white shirt walking on E 7th St. The witness claimed that the male shouted “a racial epithet” at the occupants of the dark blue Honda Accord as it was traveling northbound on Caldwell from the E 8th St area. The white male then reportedly pulled out a possible handgun and fired two rounds, causing the vehicle to speed off. The witness told police that the male and female continued walking casually on E 7th St.
Officers patrolled the area but were unable to make contact with either the vehicle or the individuals walking. A 9mm casing was found on the northwest side of the intersection of Caldwell and E 7th St. and was collected as evidence. No other evidence was observed, and there is no additional information available at this time.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact detectives with the police department.
