CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A man was seriously burned in Chillicothe after the tent he was sleeping in went up in flames.  

It happened Sunday afternoon along East Second Street.  

According to the report provided by the police department, officers along with firefighters from the Chillicothe Fire Department responded to the 300 block of East Second Street after receiving calls about a tent on fire with someone inside.  

The officer said he arrived on the scene and found the tent fully engulfed in flames with a man on the ground near the fire. The male, per the report, was identified as Timothy Smith.

Smith was reportedly suffering from severe burns and complaining of trouble breathing. He was transported by medics to Adena Regional Medical Center where a MedFlight helicopter was placed on standby.  

The cause of the fire was not released by officials. Smith, according to a witness, had a fan and an air mattress running off an extension cord inside the tent. 

No other details have been made public regarding the man’s current condition.
