ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — Search and rescue crews recovered a body in a Ross County river. First responders were called to the area of 1970 Charleston Pike.
The call came into the Ross County Sheriff’s office just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday that someone had spotted an overturned kayak or paddle board with a body floating next to it in the Scioto River. By the time teams arrived, they believed the person and paddle boat had floated downriver. The eyewitness provided video to deputies of what appeared to be a kayak and a floating object that looked like it could be a body.
Officials requested a boat, a drone, and a plane from the Highway Patrol to assist in the search, while volunteer firefighters staged along the river from Yoctangee Park to the scene. State of Ohio’s Region 7 Dive Team from Wellston was also assisting.

Shortly before 8 p.m. crews located a deceased body along the shoreline shortly after finding the water vessel.
The name of the man has not been released.
