MCARTHUR, Ohio — A grieving family is calling for justice and a thorough investigation into the death of their loved one, Travis Dakota Williams, 28, of Thurman.
The McArthur Police Department responded to a call on July 27, reporting a man behaving erratically at a house located at 411 South Market Street.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Williams lying in the yard, exhibiting erratic behavior and talking incoherently. He was transported to Holzer Hospital in Jackson, by EMS, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities have not released the full autopsy report, but preliminary findings, the department’s chief said, indicate no signs of foul play. However, the family and community members have raised serious allegations regarding the events leading up to his death.
The Guardian spoke with a family member, who said their loved one was murdered. The family member claims that Williams was subjected to brutal beatings, torture, and an alleged attempt to bury him before being taken to the Market Street residence to die.
The Williams family asserts that a video recording of the incident exists, which provides evidence to support the claims of foul play.
The Guardian reached out to the McArthur Police Department for access to the police report and a request for comment. As of yet, the department has not issued a response to the inquiry.
Amid mounting concerns from the community and the family’s call for justice, authorities are under pressure to conduct a transparent and complete investigation into the circumstances surrounding Williams’ untimely death.
A Facebook page has been created called “Justice For Dakota,” as the family and community are demanding answers and transparency from law enforcement.
