CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A new high school has opened in Chillicothe, with a focus on helping students earn their diplomas and prepare for careers. Southern Ohio Career Academy (SOCA) is a public charter school that serves students ages 15 to 21.
SOCA offers a variety of programs and services designed to meet the needs of all students. The school’s Career Technical Education Program offers specialized training and trade certifications in a variety of fields, including healthcare, information technology, and manufacturing. SOCA also offers flexible scheduling, graduation and career counseling, and small group instruction for students who may require a different educational setting.
“We are excited to offer the opportunities for quality learning and workforce development in the City of Chillicothe,” said Wendy Rydarowicz, CEO and Founder of The Educational Empowerment Group. “Southern Ohio Career Academy will be the first dropout prevention and recovery high school in the city. We endeavor to make a positive impact on the community and change the lives of our youth one student at a time.”
Dr. Karla Case, the Founding Principal of SOCA, has spent her entire professional career in education as both a teacher and a principal. She has a deep understanding of the challenges and barriers students face in attending school and graduating.
“I am very excited to lead Southern Ohio Career Academy alongside a team of top-notch teachers and staff dedicated to ensuring every student’s success toward earning a high school diploma and Industry-Recognized Credentials,” said Dr. Case. “What sets this school apart is its focus on career development, small class sizes, and individualized instruction and support. We will do ‘whatever it takes’ to meet the diverse needs of our students. Southern Ohio Career Academy aspires to connect innovation with education to motivate students to excel.”
