CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Chillicothe High School (CHS) administration discovered illegal substances on campus yesterday after an anonymous informant reported several students using vaping devices in a classroom.
Upon receiving the tip, CHS administrators immediately intervened, removing the implicated students for a search. The backpack of one student, whose identity remains confidential, was found to contain a THC cartridge. The Chillicothe Police Department (CPD) has since taken the cartridge into evidence.
The student, once identified, was informed of the pending disciplinary actions and was provided with the relevant documentation. The student’s parent, also unnamed, was contacted immediately and arrived at the school to discuss the situation with both the CHS administration and the attending officer.
“We have vape detectors in our 7-12 building,” said school superintendent Debbie Swinehart. “The district follows the student handbook and code of conduct when issuing discipline to students caught with drugs while on school property and files charges in such cases.”
The student now faces a recommendation for a charge of drug paraphernalia to be presented to the Juvenile court. The parent acknowledged the situation and departed the school without further incident.
