BAINBRIDGE, Ohio — In the early hours Friday, Paint Valley Local Schools (PVLSD) faced a threat that led to an immediate closure of the school. The school administration became aware of a bomb threat through a social media post on a neighboring district’s site at around 6 a.m.. Acting promptly on this alarming information, local authorities were notified.
The school released a statement saying, “Early this morning PVLSD received notification of a bomb threat through a social media post on another district’s site. We immediately notified local authorities. At this time, our buildings are being thoroughly searched and Columbus K9 Division dogs will be assisting. We believe the safety of students and staff are our number one priority and will be closing today.”
As the anonymous threat claimed that a bomb was set to go off at 8 a.m., a substantial force of deputies arrived at the scene, supported by heavy fire trucks to manage the morning traffic and keep individuals away from the area. Their efforts helped ensure a secure perimeter, enabling law enforcement to sweep the campus meticulously.
Sheriff George Lavender said that his office quickly identified the 15-year-old student responsible for the threat, who lived in Chillicothe but attended the district through open enrollment. The teen was arrested and charged.
Although no devices were detonated at 8 a.m. and the investigation continues, the caution exercised by both the school administration and law enforcement agencies shows the community’s commitment to safety. The thorough search operations, bolstered by the Columbus K9 Division, exemplify the rigorous measures in place to protect the students and staff of Paint Valley Local Schools.
Parents, students, and staff are urged to await further updates from the school and local authorities regarding the resumption of normal operations.
