The incident took place just after 1 a.m. when a sedan collided with an SUV. According to officials, the sedan was traveling on the one-lane bridge, which had been narrowed due to ongoing construction. The collision resulted in the sedan being totaled after it rear-ended the SUV.

Eyewitnesses at the scene described the driver of the sedan maneuvering erratically before the crash. No one was injured in the incident, and the driver of the sedan, authorities speculate was drunk.

The area was cordoned off for about an hour as investigators worked the scene and crews cleared the wreckage. Traffic was diverted to alternate routes causing minor delays.

The construction on the Route 50 bridge is part of a broader infrastructure improvement project aimed at enhancing road safety and traffic flow in the area. The project is expected to continue for several more weeks.

Traffic has since resumed on Route 50, but local authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution and adhere to all traffic signs and signals when traversing through construction zones.
