NEW YORK, New York — TIME Magazinne has unveiled that Tim Glockner, the head of Glockner Chevrolet in Portsmouth, is in the running for the esteemed 2024 TIME Dealer of the Year award. Glockner is part of an exclusive group of 49 dealers from across the U.S. who will be celebrated at the 107th NADA Show in Las Vegas on February 3, 2024.
The award is a significant recognition within the auto sector, celebrating the success and community dedication of the country’s top auto dealers. Representing the Ohio Automobile Dealers Association, Glockner joins 48 other nominees vying for this 55th annual award out of 16,000 dealers nationwide.
Speaking about his journey, Glockner shared, “In my role, I’ve aimed to craft a work culture where employees feel valued and content. My father’s joy came from uplifting others, and I’ve aspired to extend that tradition.”
The Glockner lineage traces back six generations, initiated by Bernhard and Magdalena Glockner, German immigrants who started a hardware store in Portsmouth in 1847. Over nearly two centuries, their small venture evolved from selling bicycles to leading car dealerships. Tim Glockner reminisced about his early days at the family business, detailing the various roles he took on before diving into car sales after completing his entrepreneurial studies at Xavier University in 1998. Presently, with his brothers Mike and Joe, they manage the Glockner Family of Dealerships, comprising seven outlets across Ohio and Kentucky.
Glockner emphasized the value of his family’s legacy, stating, “I am humbled by the history and sacrifices of my predecessors. With the hard work of our dedicated staff, we’ve expanded and sustained our family’s legacy.”
Active within the Ohio Automobile Dealers Association, Glockner previously chaired its board of directors. He voiced his dedication to strengthening relations with lawmakers to ensure the industry’s well-being.
With roots deep in Portsmouth, Glockner continues his family’s legacy of community service. Leading the Glockner Family Foundation, he supports various causes, from educational institutions to health and community initiatives. Their business also actively endorses community events like the River Days Festival, Glocktoberfest, and Winterfest.
He added, “Being the main sponsor for numerous local events gives me immense satisfaction. It’s a testament to our commitment to the community.”
There are few honors higher than this one for a dealer, and this one holds a special place in Tim’s heart since his Grandfather, Ebb Glockner, won Time dealer of the year in 1978, and Tim’s father, Andy Glockner, was up for Time Dealer of year in 2014.
Dealers receive nominations from state and metro dealer associations. The University of Michigan’s Tauber Institute for Global Operations will select one winner from four NADA regions and a national Dealer of the Year. Ally, the exclusive sponsor for 13 years, donates to each nominee’s charity of choice and acknowledges them on AllyDealerHeroes.com.
TIME’s CEO, Jessica Sibley, said, “We, at TIME, cherish the opportunity to commend auto dealers for their immense community impact through our award. Together with Ally, we’re delighted to celebrate such dedication.”
Echoing her sentiments, Doug Timmerman from Ally shared, “The nominated dealers showcase commendable commitment to their communities. They extend their rapport beyond just sales and are community pillars.”
The recommendation for Glockner’s nomination came from Zach Doran of the Ohio Automobile Dealers Association. Glockner, alongside his wife Monica, is a proud parent to their daughter.
