GROVEPORT, Ohio — DHL Supply Chain announced plans this week to lay off 264 employees from its warehouse at 5235 Westpoint Dr. in Groveport, a move spurred by a client’s decision to end operations by October 28.

This marks the most significant layoff reported to the state’s employment department since March. The Groveport facility, at one point, catered to Pier 1 Imports, which declared bankruptcy over three years ago.

Despite the layoffs, DHL remains optimistic. With more than 4,000 employees in central Ohio and 18 warehouses in the Columbus area, the logistics giant is actively working to relocate affected employees. “Our aim is to move as many employees as possible to other local facilities by year’s end,” a company spokesperson stated.

Adding to their expansive 15 million square feet of distribution space in Ohio, DHL recently revealed plans for a 755,000-square-foot center near Carroll in Fairfield County. This new facility, anticipated to open in the second quarter, is expected to employ around 200 workers.
