CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A routine patrol took a dangerous turn when two Chillicothe Police officers got into a fight with a wanted man, resulting in both officers being injured.

Officer Monique Lee and her colleague, Officer Chris Claytor, encountered fugitive Shane Seyfang, who had an active warrant for probation violation. The incident unfolded at the backside of 300 East 2nd Street, where Lee approached Seyfang, informing him of the warrant. Claytor joined the scene to assist in the arrest.

According to the official report, Seyfang’s response was far from cooperative. Upon being informed of the warrant, he quickly stood up, displaying aggressive behavior by shoving Lee with both hands. Claytor, witnessing the escalating situation, rushed towards them. Seyfang continued to resist, shoving Lee again as she attempted to gain control. The situation took a more alarming turn when Seyfang raised his fist in an apparent attempt to strike Lee. Claytor, recognizing the imminent threat, intervened by grabbing Seyfang in an attempt to take him down.

Despite initial struggles, Officer Claytor managed to stand Seyfang up, using his body weight to push him back. However, the physical confrontation took a toll on Claytor. As they grappled, Seyfang lost balance, causing both of them to fall to the ground.

With Seyfang’s being compliant, he was apprehended and transported to the Ross County Jail, where he faced charges of probation violation, resisting arrest, obstructing official business, and assault on a peace officer.

In a surprising turn of events, Officer Claytor, during the arrest, suffered a significant injury to his chest. Following the incident, he was transported to Adena Regional Medical Center by the Chillicothe Fire Department, where it was determined that he had a torn muscle supporting his sternum and rib cage. Claytor is set to follow up with Occupational Health for further evaluation and treatment. Meanwhile, Officer Lee sustained a hip injury during the incident but continued to perform her duties.
