CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Police in Chillicothe are looking into a case of a stolen car being sold at a local car dealership.
It happened at Hometown Auto in Chillicothe this week.
Law enforcement report that a 2019 Kia Sportage was being sold to a customer, when it became apparent that the vehicle on the lot was actually stolen.
The dealership claimed to police that they bought the car at Value Auto Auction in Crooksville, and said that when they acquired it, it came with an alleged clean Carfax. But when the customer went to buy it, it showed stolen.
A swift investigation by law enforcement traced the SUV’s illicit origins to Franklin County. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the stolen status, leading to the immediate towing of the vehicle to impound.
An investigation has been launched.
