SWANTON, Ohio — Residents get ready for some unusual night lights this week! The Ohio Air National Guard’s 180th Fighter Wing will be conducting nighttime training flights with their iconic F-16 fighter jets starting Monday, February 12th, and continuing through Thursday, February 15th.

Expect to see and hear F-16s taking off and landing from the Toledo Air National Guard Base until approximately 9:00 PM each night, weather permitting. The jets may also use flares during their training exercises, though these pose no safety threat to the public.

While these flights may disrupt the usual nighttime peace and quiet, rest assured they are an essential part of maintaining the readiness and skill of our Air National Guard pilots. Nighttime operations training prepares them for a variety of real-world scenarios, ensuring they are equipped to defend our nation whenever called upon.

Important information for residents:

  • The flights will only occur between sunset and 9:00 PM.
  • You may see and hear F-16s taking off and landing, potentially with the use of flares.
  • There is no danger to the public from these training exercises.

So, the next time you hear a roar in the night sky this week, remember it’s just our brave Air National Guard pilots hard at work.
