COLUMBUS, Ohio — Fire departments across the state are among the 307 recipients of the 2024 Multi-Agency Radio Communications Systems (MARCS) Grant, bringing enhanced communication and safety to communities in Ohio.
$4 Million Boost for Statewide Fire Protection:
The Ohio Department of Commerce Division of State Fire Marshal announced the grants, totaling $4 million, marking a $500,000 increase from last year and reflecting a commitment to supporting first responders. This increase aligns with a recommendation from Governor Mike DeWine’s recent Volunteer Firefighter Task Force Report.
More Than Just Money:
Beyond the financial support, the grant program underscores the state’s dedication to empowering fire departments, especially smaller and volunteer-based ones, with crucial technology.
Enhanced Communication, Enhanced Safety:
The MARCS system provides a secure, reliable platform for inter-agency communication during emergencies. With over 120,000 voice units and 1,800 mobile data units already in use statewide, the grant expands this network, ultimately boosting public safety.
