PORTSMOUTH, Ohio —

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (AP) — A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle early Thursday morning on State Route 73 in Ohio.

The Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the incident around 6:05 a.m., approximately 0.6 miles west of mile post #18 on State Route 73.

According to authorities, Derrick S. Cordle, 38, of Ashland, Kentucky, was attempting to cross the roadway when he was hit by a vehicle in the westbound lane. Cordle succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver involved in the crash is not suspected of impairment, and the incident remains under investigation.

State Route 73 was temporarily closed while authorities investigated the scene.
