WAVERLY, Ohio – The Garnet A. Wilson Public Library in Waverly is slowly recovering after a fire ripped through a connected building on March 20th. While power has been restored, the library sustained significant damage and remains closed to the public.

According to a recent social media post from the library, extensive repairs are required. The main floor suffered damage to wiring, walls, and carpeting due to fire and water. The basement also needs new carpeting throughout the hallway and community room.
The library emphasized that insurance funds will solely be used to repair the current building. While some members of the community have inquired about using insurance money for a new library, the library spokesperson confirmed that the current structure is salvageable.

The fire, which originated in a neighboring building, also destroyed several businesses, including Perry Glass Service, and displaced families living in nearby apartments. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the blaze.
The library did not provide a timeline for reopening, but they promised to keep the community updated on their progress. In the meantime, residents are encouraged to utilize the services offered by other libraries in the area.
