WILMINGTON, Ohio — Southern Ohio is assessing the damage after severe weather ripped through the region on Tuesday. The National Weather Service (NWS) plans to conduct storm surveys today, to determine the extent of the damage and the possibility of tornadoes.
Residents who witnessed weather-related damage are urged to report it to the NWS via designated reporting methods or by calling 937-383-0031.
Areas hardest hit include the Hanging Rock area of Lawrence County, portions of Adams County, and parts of Scioto County, all of which reported damage consistent with possible tornado touchdowns.
Ohio has become an unexpected leader in tornado activity in 2024, surpassing both Oklahoma and Texas in total confirmed tornadoes.
Thousands of residents across the region are also without power this morning.

While the storms have calmed, concerns are shifting to potential flooding. Several roads across the Scioto Valley and surrounding counties are currently underwater. The Scioto River at Piketon is expected to continue rising before cresting above flood stage later this week.
Motorists are reminded “to turn around, and not drown.” Never drive across flooded roadways. Even a small amount of fast moving water can move a vehicle.
