WAVERLY, Ohio — The Garnet A. Wilson Public Library in Waverly has issued a community update following a devastating fire that occurred last month.

According to a statement released on the Waverly branch’s Facebook page, the library provided details of the current situation. A structural engineer has determined that no further construction may proceed to repair the damage until a wall of an adjoining building is torn down due to safety concerns. Additionally, the roof and first floor are slated for demolition due to safety concerns.

The library administration further elaborated that extensive reconstruction efforts are necessary, including the replacement of the roof, first floor, and basement interior walls, along with essential fixtures such as carpeting and electrical systems.

The timeline for reopening remains uncertain, with the library estimating that it may not be able to resume operations until mid-May or June.

The community is encouraged to stay updated through the library’s official communication channels for further developments regarding the restoration process.
