PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — A woman being treated in a local hospital received an unwelcome surprise when she discovered her home had been burglarized, according to Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman.

The woman, whose identity has not been released, was alerted to the break-in by her neighbors who provided video and pictures of the suspects. The victim was able to identify one of the suspects from the footage.

Upon arrival at the victim’s home, deputies found signs of forced entry, with the door having been pried open. While patrolling the area, deputies located one of the suspects in Portsmouth. A truck matching the description of the one involved in the burglary was observed while detaining the individual.

The suspects began to inform on one another during questioning. One suspect claimed that he had been contacted by the other suspect for a ride to the victim’s house, but denied any knowledge of the burglary.

As of today, one person is in custody. Brayden James Queen, 23, of 1309 Summit Street, Portsmouth, has been charged with Burglary, Tampering with Evidence, Possession of Criminal Tools, and Drug Possession. He remains in custody on an $87,000 bond.

Sheriff Thoroughman stated that this is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office.
