CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Chillicothe’s Horizon Telecom, now under new ownership by Shentel and rebranded as Glo Fiber, has unveiled ambitious expansion plans poised to transform Ohio’s broadband landscape.
Glo Fiber, powered by Shenandoah Telecommunications Company, aims to extend its cutting-edge fiber-optic broadband services to more than 40,000 additional homes and businesses across Ohio. Engineering efforts are already in progress to link communities such as Zanesville, Hillsboro, Jackson, Johnstown, and Greenfield to Glo Fiber’s network. Presently, Glo Fiber serves areas including Chillicothe, Circleville, Lancaster, and Washington Courthouse, Ohio, alongside markets in Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Maryland.
Ed McKay, Shentel’s Chief Operating Officer, expressed enthusiasm for the expansion, highlighting Glo Fiber’s rapid growth over the past five years. The company prides itself on top-tier customer service and network reliability, qualities it aims to extend to more Ohio communities.
Glo Fiber distinguishes itself with symmetrical upload and download speeds of up to 5 gigabits per second (Gbps), facilitated by direct fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) connections and Shentel’s expansive regional fiber network spanning 15,400 miles. Beyond ultra-fast internet, Glo Fiber offers streaming video and phone services, along with Wall-to-Wall WiFi for seamless connectivity.
Setting itself apart from competitors, Glo Fiber emphasizes straightforward pricing, no long-term contracts, and responsive local customer service. Ohio represents a strategic growth market for Glo Fiber, with ongoing fiber network expansions slated throughout 2024 and beyond. Detailed construction schedules for specific communities are expected to be announced in the coming months.
