VINTON COUNTY, Ohio — A man from Centerville, Ohio is now in custody after evading law enforcement in Vinton County.
Sheriff Ryan Cain reports that on May 4, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Route 50. The driver, 30-year-old George Matthys, allegedly fled from deputies in a silver Mercedes. The chase reached speeds of nearly 105 MPH.
Officials stated that deputies managed to apprehend the fleeing suspect after he got caught in heavy traffic. Deputies were then able to block the vehicle, effectively bringing the chase to an end.
Matthys was arrested and transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail. Upon searching the vehicle, deputies reportedly found a loaded handgun and over an ounce of suspected methamphetamine.
George Matthys is expected to make his appearance in a Vinton County court this week.
