PIKE COUNTY, Ohio — A tanker truck rollover accident has rescue crews responding to Route 23 near the Comfort Inn motel in Pike County. The accident occurred around 11:30 AM.

Law enforcement officials on the scene confirm the driver is currently trapped inside the vehicle but conscious. The contents of the tanker remain unknown at this time.

Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the area as emergency responders work to secure the scene.

The sign on the wrecked tanker says, “Hot Molten Sulfur.”

UPDATE:

*11:37 AM – The Pike County Emergency Management Agency was requested to the scene for a “Hazmat” situation as well as a Hazmat Team from neighboring counties.

*12:50 PM – Authorities say the crash ruptured a natural gas line. Officials are trying to shut the gas off.
