COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Liquor Control (DOLC) and the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) have announced a significant financial boost to the Statewide Prevention and Treatment Fund. A total of $9.4 million has been allocated over the past year to support the fund’s mission.
The DOLC contributes 20% of liquor permit fees annually to the fund, which is then utilized by OhioMHAS to finance a broad spectrum of services aimed at helping individuals combat mental illness and substance use disorders.
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, Paul Kulwinski, DOLC Director of Licensing, emphasized the importance of the resources provided by OhioMHAS. “It’s crucial to acknowledge the extensive support our sister agency offers to Ohioans in need,” Kulwinski stated. “Our state’s liquor laws are designed to channel a portion of the licensing fees towards combating alcohol abuse and funding essential treatment services.”
OhioMHAS also provides resources for stress assessment and management, reinforcing their dedication to mental wellness. In urgent situations, Ohioans facing mental health or substance use crises are encouraged to reach out to the 988 National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline for immediate, confidential support from trained counselors, available 24/7.
