CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A local man faces serious charges following a high-speed chase earlier this year. John A. Whitley of Chillicothe was indicted by a Ross County grand jury on May 10 on two counts of vehicular assault, grand theft, and failure to stop after an accident.
The charges stem from an incident in January when the Chillicothe Police Department attempted to stop a driver in the area of Adams Avenue and Washington Avenue on Chillicothe’s East Side. The driver, later identified as Whitley, allegedly refused to stop and instead accelerated at a high rate of speed. Authorities report that speeds during the chase reached nearly 90 mph.
The pursuit continued outside of the city and onto Patton Hill Road, where Whitley reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed.
Whitley is expected to return to court on June 3, 2024.
