SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio — New details have emerged regarding the tragic drowning of a child from Scioto County in a swimming pool at a Wheelersburg hotel.
Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman reported that a 911 call was received around 6:00 PM on Sunday, June 2, reporting that two children had drowned. The incident occurred at the Quality Inn in Wheelersburg.
Rescue crews arrived at the scene where active CPR was already in progress. One child was resuscitated before the medics arrived. The second child was transported to the Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to the sheriff, the investigation revealed that the two children were attending a pool party. The older child reportedly fell into the pool, and the younger child attempted to rescue them but also fell into the pool. The children were aged 9 and 11. The 11-year-old, Mackenzie Cornell, tragically lost her life in the incident.
