ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — On Saturday evening, around 8:30 p.m., local authorities were dispatched to the Clarksburg Post Office in response to a juvenile complaint involving a young child and a kitten.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a postal worker who reported being contacted by multiple residents about a kitten in the office window inside the Post Office. Witnesses, according to the police report, said a young child had pushed the kitten through a mail slot into the office area.

Subsequently, the child attempted to retrieve the kitten by trying to pry open the office window with a screwdriver.

The kitten was found unharmed. Authorities contacted Brad Adams of the Fayette Regional Humane Society, who responded to the scene to take possession of the kitten.

Following the retrieval of the kitten, officials visited the residence of the juvenile, where they spoke with the child’s mother. Deputies said the mother confirmed that her daughter, an 8-year-old, allegedly roams the village unsupervised. The mother was informed of the incident at the Post Office.

Authorities said in their report that they advised the mother that her daughter should be supervised when in public.

The case remains under review as local officials and the Humane Society plan on having a meeting with the family.
