CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A Chillicothe resident recently fell victim to an online romance scam, according to a report filed with the Ross County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim, who wished to remain anonymous, reported the incident to law enforcement on June 22nd, 2024. He stated he had been involved in an online relationship with a woman claiming to be Sandra Oliverez.
According to the report, the victim believed Sandra to be visiting the US from Brazil and struggling to obtain a visa extension. He claims to have sent a total of $6,864 through Cash App to purportedly help with these visa expenses. However, the requests for money allegedly continued, prompting the victim to send additional funds for various reasons.
The report details that Sandra supposedly sent the victim photos of documents related to the visa process. Despite these documents, the victim never met Sandra in person or engaged in a video chat. He did, however, send flowers to an address provided by Sandra and later received a photo of the flowers, though Sandra herself was not pictured.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident. It is unknown if Sandra Oliverez is a real person or a fabricated identity used for the scam.
