ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio — A coordinated effort by the Athens County Drug Task Force, Athens County Prosecutor’s Office, Athens County Sheriff’s Office, and Athens City Police Department resulted in a significant drug bust on Thursday, June 28th, 2024. Authorities executed a search warrant at 970 East State Street, Athens, following an investigation into suspected drug trafficking and usage within the apartment complex.

During the raid, law enforcement officials discovered a cache of items related to drug trafficking and suspected narcotics. Leo M. Jarvis, 62, a resident of Athens, was arrested on charges of permitting drug abuse. Evidence collected from the scene will be sent to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) for further testing, with additional charges expected for other suspects involved in the case.

Sheriff Smith emphasized the community’s role in combating illegal drugs, highlighting the dangers drugs pose to individuals and families. He pledged continued efforts to eradicate drug trafficking and distribution, collaborating closely with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure justice.
