CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ross County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident involving a local man who threatened to commit suicide by cop following allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor.
Authorities responded to a residence on Creek View Drive in Chillicothe on June 29 after receiving a distress call. According to the sheriff’s office report, deputies were dispatched regarding a male subject, later identified as Josh Baer, who threatened to “shoot it out” with law enforcement. Baer allegedly had a firearm in his possession when he called 911.
The incident escalated when Baer, deputies said, admitted to deputies that he attempted to sexually assault his girlfriend’s 14-year-old daughter. Baer reportedly claimed he had been smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol when he forced himself on the teen.
Medics were called to transport Baer to the hospital due to his suicide threats. Deputies reported that the teen’s mother arrived at the scene visibly distraught upon learning of the alleged assault. The victim stated she had just returned home from a friend’s house when Baer, reportedly intoxicated, forced himself onto her.
The case has been turned over to detectives for further investigation. As of now, no criminal charges have been filed.
