CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Ohio University Chillicothe has recently invested in upgrading the Shoemaker Center with a new Nevco scoreboard, funded by Ohio University Vice President for Regional Campuses and Partnerships, Lewatis McNeal. This enhancement aims to bolster the center’s capability to host tournaments and a variety of athletic events effectively.

The installation of the new scoreboard is geared towards supporting multiple sports such as basketball, volleyball, futsal, and wrestling, ensuring that the Shoemaker Center can cater to diverse community needs and sporting activities.

To further enhance facility utilization and community engagement, Ohio University Chillicothe is also recruiting a part-time coordinator for the Shoemaker Center. This role will focus on expanding partnerships within the community, organizing health and wellness initiatives for faculty, staff, and students, and maximizing overall facility usage. Applicants are required to hold an associate degree or equivalent in fields related to athletics, fitness, business, or communications, and have at least two years of relevant experience. More information and applications can be found on ohiouniversityjobs.com, with a deadline set for July 21.

Named in honor of the late Myrl Shoemaker, a prominent figure in Ohio politics who served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives and lieutenant governor, the Shoemaker Center has been a cornerstone of Chillicothe since its dedication in 1979. Equipped with a full-length basketball court, free-standing baskets, and seating for approximately 2,400 spectators, it stands as one of the largest and most versatile venues in the area.
