ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A one-legged man was arrested early Thursday morning for operating a lawn mower while intoxicated and in possession of a loaded firearm, according to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to a property on Route 772 in Ross County following a report of a suspicious person with one leg cutting someone’s grass while possibly intoxicated. Upon arrival, officers observed Randy Kingsland operating a Craftsman T100 lawn mower with a trailer attached, holding a half-empty bottle of vodka. Kingsland also matched the description of the suspect, having only one leg.
As deputies approached, they observed Kingsland run the lawn mower over a solid object, causing him to stop and look back. A purse was found on the ground, apparently dropped and run over by the lawn mower blades. When deputies began to converse with Kingsland, he reportedly threw the vodka bottle and a silver Thermos into the trailer behind the lawnmower. Deputies say Kingsland’s speech was heavily slurred, and he admitted to being intoxicated.
Deputies said in their report that they detected a strong odor of alcohol on Kingsland’s breath. Given his slurred speech, the odor of alcohol, the open container on his person, and his alleged admission of intoxication, Kingsland was placed under arrest for OVI (Operating a Vehicle Impaired) and weapons while intoxicated.
Kingsland was then escorted to the Ross County Jail, where he was released into their custody.
