CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe Police Department has released body cam footage from the arrest of a local man who refused to communicate with officers and then fled on foot.
On June 1, 2024, officers were dispatched to a residence on Leggett Avenue for a welfare check. According to the report provided by the police, earlier that same day, deputies from the Ross County Sheriff’s Office handled a Temporary Protection Order (TPO) involving 38-year-old Zachary Yates. They advised the Chillicothe Police Department that Yates had allegedly left voicemails threatening to kill his family.
When officers arrived on the scene, they encountered Yates, who was outside his grandfather’s residence. Officers stated that Yates was discussing conspiracy theories. At that time, additional officers from the department arrived on the scene.
Body cam footage shows that Yates became agitated by the presence of additional officers, claiming that their presence constituted oppression. Yates then stated that he was not going to jail and fled on foot. Officers are seen on the body cam chasing Yates, deploying a taser, and then tackling him to the ground.
Yates was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Ross County Jail. He was charged with the TPO violation, resisting arrest, and obstruction.
